I previously covered Orlando for Patch News for over 3 years and am excited to be covering the area once again. Orlando hosting U.S. Team Olympic Trials - Marathon next weekend: City of Orlando will host the U.S. Team Olympic Trials - Marathon on Saturday, Feb. 3. It is a collaboration with Track Shack, the Greater Orlando Sports Commission, USA Track and Field and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. The competition will help select Team USA in the Olympic Games Paris 2024. (wftv.com)
Downtown Orlando soccer stadium gets new naming rights owner: Inter&Co, a leader of financial and digital commerce services, Orlando City SC, and the Orlando Pride have announced a long-term agreement to name the teams’ home venue Inter&Co Stadium. The firm has a long history of supporting and investing in soccer, including relationships with Athletico Paranaense, Fortaleza Esporte Clube, and the MRV arena, home to Clube Atlético Mineiro. There will be numerous updates made to the stadium in celebration of the new partnership. (carloseats.com)
Elle King cancels upcoming Universal Orlando Mardi Gras concert: Country music singer Elle King has canceled her appearance Universal Orlando's Mardi Gras, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17. King has faced controversy since a performance recently at the Ryman Auditorium. King will be replaced by singer Nessa Barret. (clickorlando.com)
House of Mac closes Orlando location: Miami-based World Famous House of Mac has shuttered its Orlando location at 2435 S. Orange Ave. The location originally opened in March 2022. A statement posted on social media said, “Saying goodbye is never easy but today we bid farewell to a place that holds countless unforgettable moments. This journey has been nothing short of incredible and would not be possible without the overwhelming support of this community.” (bungalower.com)
Wekiva Parkway opens after a decade of development: Wekiva Parkway is now open in Central Florida connecting SR-429, I-4 and SR-417 are billions of dollars in spending. Construction began over 10 years ago on the connection. It is expected to help Apopka, Sanford and Mt.Dora drivers get around Orlando traffic. (wesh.com)
